The Band

Who We Are

Rockslide has been rocking the valley in one capacity or another for years. The band isn't boxed into just one genre -- from hard-hitting rock and soulful blues to country and anything in between, the band thrives on bringing in new talent, fresh ideas, and a passion for playing live music. Come out to a show, grab a drink, and enjoy the music.

Meet the Band

Michael Hess

Michael Hess

Bass & Lead Vocals

Michael was raised in the Kern Valley and has been playing music ever since. He started out singing and drumming at the age of 9, and switched to bass when he hit 20 -- around the same time he became a songwriter. He's played country, rock, Christian, and blues over the years, to name a few. He released his first album in 2007 with Set In Stone, called In God We Trust, recorded at Buck Owens Studio in Bakersfield. In 2009 he wrote a second album with Set In Stone called Mystery, followed by a third album with Thin Ice called Cruising in 2014. He's been with Rockslide for the past three years, playing covers and a few of his originals.

Keyboards

Linda "Blue" started out studying classical piano, but eventually realized she wanted to play keyboards in a band and began her journey. She started playing in blues jams and met her future husband (Bill) there. They lost track of each other when she started playing with several other bands, including a Deep Purple tribute band called Shades of Purple.

It took a while, but Bill tracked her down, and she started playing keyboards in his band, Driving Sideways Blues Band. Eventually Bill and Linda were married.

Matthew Rodriguez

Matthew Rodriguez

Guitar

Matthew's father played guitar and was a talented musician who performed throughout the valley and beyond. Matthew didn't know his father well, but he's the one who inspired him to get into music -- starting on bass guitar before eventually moving on to guitar.

He started playing in middle school and high school, forming bands with friends as they explored music together. He's written originals and played covers, and has been part of many original and cover bands over the years with friends and fellow musicians he met through a shared passion for music -- recording albums and gigging throughout the valley at venues alongside them.

Matthew enjoys writing originals as much as playing covers -- to him, it's all about playing music, period. He's been a new addition to Rockslide for the past few months, and continues learning new styles and perspectives to keep music a part of his life.
